• Penguin Cart

    Penguin Cart

This was an amazing project in collaboration with Penguin Random House. They needed a colourful pop-up shop and had some blueprints and ideas about how it should look. I took care of the rest, adding functionality to cart with hinged shelves, modular boxes and a custom 4 wheel setup.

  • Noce Ristorante

    Noce Ristorante

Noce Ristorante has been a mainstay for Italian dishes in downtown Toronto for over 20 years. It was a great honour to help design custom upholstery seating to fit their newly redesigned space.

The new pieces consisted of a large tufted banquet, curved pleated banquet, ganged plywood frame seating, custom life edge chef’s table and curvaceous sofa.

Here are some work in progress shots of the furniture built for Noce

    Bunkie Co

    [/vc_column]

In 2011 I met Nathan Buhler at the Interior Design Show. We got talking about ideas that merged architecture with furniture design. A few years later we showed our concept at IIDEX to great fanfare.

With no building permits required and a complete set of pre-assembled components. The Bunkie offers an ideal personal sense of place that can be assembled in less then a week.

The Bunkie was originally conceived as an overflow space for cottagers in Canada’s beautiful Muskoka Region. Since then, the Bunkie’s appeal has expanded it’s use into a wide variety of contexts. The Bunkie Collection comes in 4 distinct models that can be combined with a large range of interior options to fit anyone’s lifestyle. All models measure 106 SQ. FT, allowing construction to take place without a building permit in virtually everywhere across North America.

The manufacturing process utilizes CNC routers to cut precision plywood parts that provide ease of assembly and superior structural strength. Unlike traditional “stick frame” buildings, The Bunkie can be assembled within 5 days using traditional tools while using practical step-by-step instructions.

We are building a few select residential Bunkie projects and focusing on the backyard studio and commercial glamping markets.

  • Hub Chair

    Hub Chair

    [/vc_column]

Hub is a prototype conceived to challenge the standard side chair, four leg with stretcher construction methodology. This is a knock-down concept that connects all four major structural components through a centre or hub. Surprisingly there is very little flex in this design; the chair feels as firm as a traditional wood chair.

  • Noce

    Noce

Early renderings for a new public seating prototype. I designed a handful of new pieces of furniture for veteran Queen Street restaurant NOCE.

The client wanted a large sociable sofa for the lounge area. My goal was to create a form outside of my comfort zone, resulting in a generously proportioned, curvaceous, throne like one and a half seater. This series is best suited for contract, hospitality and institutional applications.

1, 2 and 3-seater versions as well a lighter scale tub chair for residential use will be available.

  • Bare for Nienkamper

  • Stem Minds

    Stem Minds

Canada is a global leader in education, but real changes are threatening core principals of traditional learning. Entrepreneurship and Collaboration are in demand skills a youth must learn to prepare for higher education.

We need to better prepare them for a future where disruptive technologies in the labour market will reward skilled workers. An understanding of science, technology, engineering and math will allow future generations to develop into critical thinkers, discoverers, entrepreneurs and problem solvers.

608 Design joined forces with Stem Minds to develop a complete Maker, Collaborative and adaptive STEM specific furniture line. We studied children’s learning habits and designed a framework around the equipment they use for building and making. Here is our solution for an emerging product category that is rapidly changing the world around us.

    Sedan for Nienkamper

    [/vc_column]

The Sedan line came to be through a collaboration with design colleague Aaron Duke. We combined my modular wingback construction methodology with a sculptural form study he had been working on. The result was an elegant upholstered lounger that considers comfort and privacy. The wing extensions really do provide a lot of ambient sound deadening ability. Sedan will be available in club chair as well as wingback versions; at 1, 2 and 3-seater sizes.
