Thank you to all attendees that stopped by our booth. There was a lot going on in our little space between beautiful images of projects by BLDG Workshop, our current upholstery offerings and collab labour of love, the Bunkie Co. Without a doubt, 2015 is going to be an exciting year for Canadian companies with innovative ideas.

Coude Mesh Lounge @ IDS Prototype
Aaron Duke and I have been long time collaborators on furniture projects for office furniture companies. We’ve always wanted to work on an experimental concept between contract and residential realms. The Coude (pronounced “cood”) is a blend of Japanese and Scandinavian design sensibilities. It has a poised and graceful stance with a bit of quirkiness to it’s proportions. We meant it to be light in scale, weight and material use.
It is currently only a prototype but some discussion has come about a limited production run.
See the unveiling at the Interior Design Show this week in the prototype exhibit.

IDS 11 – Studio North
Here is the latest and greatest from the front lines of 608 Design. Had a blast at IDS meeting new, super talented designers and well established manufacturers. Would consider doing it again next year.
Chatting with the crowd, explaining how HUB works
Chillin’ at my booth with the new TRU chair (formerly the Cubert chair). The amazing artwork in the background was hand inked by my man Paul Aloisi -
ANNEX WINGBACK – On display at Radiant Dark
Here is a sneak peek of my latest creation. “Annex” is an arm chair that can be converted into a wing chair. The idea is to build added value into the original piece. By providing the option to “up-convert” the chair, the user can renew it’s appearance and ultimately extend it’s life.
All materials for production pieces consist of FSC plywood inner frame, FSC walnut or maple legs, soy based high resilience foam, wool fabric, spring seat suspension and felt glides. As usual, the chair can be disassembled for easy transport and all parts are replaceable if damaged.
Here are some preliminary CAD screen captures.

Green Living Show
Check out the sweetness of Cubert at the Green Living Show. It was a part of the Green-ovations exhibit which showcased products committed to eco-effective production methods. I also met David Robitaille, manager of Corporate Citizenship and Affairs at IBM. They’re promoting social and environmental sustainability using technology to optimize business operations. Nice!
